The boat race celebrates the day President Ho Chi Minh paid a visit to Cat Ba fishing village in 1959 and that day is also the traditional day of aquiculture.

Opening of the race is tug-of-war item between boat teams on the sea. After that, fishermen from the territorial waters of Central and Southern parts perform coracle shaking.
